Hatch is an artists collective that evolved during lockdown in collaboration with the wonderful Ian and his huge disused battery egg farm. The enormity of the space meant we could put on our first drive thru exhibition, which allowed us to show our work safely during the pandemic.
Although people can now walk through our shows, we've continued bringing new life to the building through a whole host of exhibitions, events and escapades. Offering people the opportunity to experience art in a new way and challenge their perceptions of the world. From site specific installations, painting, sculpture, film, sound and kinetic works at Hatch we tap into the wealth of artistic talent we have here in Somerset… providing opportunities for artists to work on a grand scale.

Death & Microwaves
Oct 27th to Nov 12th 2023
Friday to Sunday - 11am to 4pm
Like the Dadaists, whose name came by stabbing a knife into a French-German dictionary pointing to word dada (“hobby-horse”), this exhibition title arose from the spontaneity of conversation around the dinner table. Death and Microwaves, could be seen as entirely separate subjects for art making, or could provide unexpected correlations between disparate ideas.
Death, an often avoided subject matter, is something which effects us all in our day to day lives. We see this as an opportunity to explore the nuances of death, dying and grief within a supportive environment. We hope it will insight conversation amongst the group as well as within our wider audience.
Microwaves can be seen as a similarly elusive force to the nature of life and death. Do we really understand what it is or what it looks like? They’ve drawn suspicion and distrust, conspiracy theories and fascination. A symbol of technology that we once feared and now use every day in communications, industry and our homes. Perhaps the microwave can be a conduit for our fears or fascinations for the future.
